Four programmes are already underway, with a further 13 set to launch, one in every region across the UK, alongside expansion into Europe. But the potential for the future, just like the potential of children, is limitless.
Our focus is on ages 5–11, a crucial stage when confidence, curiosity and attitudes to learning take shape. Research consistently shows that attitudes toward learning, self-belief and even future aspirations begin to solidify during these primary school years.
Swimming is a life-saving skill, yet nearly a third of children leave primary school unable to swim.
The primary aim of our swimming programme is to help kids feel confident and safe in the water. While swimming 25 metres is a great milestone for the kids to reach, it’s seen as a stretch goal, rather than the only measure of success. Because, ultimately we want kids to have fun in the water.
When it comes to physical activity, the most consistent inequality is the gender gap. 46% of girls meet activity guidelines compared with 52% of boys. Girls also report lower enjoyment and confidence around taking part in physical activities, especially during adolescence.
Our Move Together programme is designed to build girls’ confidence and enjoyment around moving their bodies, to set them up for a life of being active.
