What is the David Lloyd Clubs Together Foundation?
The David Lloyd Clubs Together Foundation is a registered charity with a single mission: to change the lives of underrepresented children through the power of movement. It brings together our Clubs, members and partners to create meaningful, lasting impact in local communities.
Why was the Together Foundation created?
Less than half of children in England meet the recommended activity levels, and those in deprived communities are the least active. The Foundation was created to close this movement gap and give more children the opportunity to move, grow and thrive.
What do you mean by “the power of movement”?
Movement isn’t just about physical health. Being physically active supports confidence, mental wellbeing, resilience, social connection and long-term opportunity. It helps children feel stronger in every sense.
Who does the Together Foundation support?
We focus on primary school children aged 5–11 in underrepresented and underserved communities, particularly where barriers to activity are highest.
What does “underrepresented children” mean?
It refers to children who face barriers to opportunity. This can include those from low-income backgrounds, ethnic minority groups, children with disabilities or Special Educational Needs (SEN) and girls in sport.

We focus on two areas:
What programmes do you run?
We are launching with Swim Together and Move Together delivered across the school year. These are designed to build skills, confidence and enjoyment in a safe, supportive environment.
Why is David Lloyd Clubs starting this Foundation?
We already bring people together through movement every day. With our facilities, expertise and community presence, we’re uniquely placed to extend that impact beyond our Clubs and into local communities.
What makes the Together Foundation different from other charities?
We combine scale with local impact. Our network of Clubs across multiple countries allows us to deliver programmes directly in communities, while maintaining strong governance as a registered charity.
How does this build on your existing community work?
David Lloyd Clubs has a long history of fundraising and community support. The Foundation brings all those efforts together into one focused mission, increasing impact and accountability.
How is the Together Foundation funded?
Funding comes from three main sources:
How do you ensure funds are used responsibly?

We aim to improve children’s physical health, confidence, wellbeing and future opportunities by giving them access to movement in a supportive environment.
How will success be measured?
Through participation rates, skill development (such as swimming ability), confidence levels, wellbeing indicators and long-term engagement with physical activity.
